Fishing is an outdoor activity that many people enjoy. When you come to stay at Yellowstone RV Park, great fishing is just around the corner at Henry’s Fork. Whether you are a beginner at fishing, or have been many times before, here are a few fishing tips that will help you enjoy your day out on the lake and hopefully catch some more fish!
- Bring More Than One Type of Bait. When beginners go fishing it is easy to think that bringing one bait will do, but the truth is that you can never have too many baits! Bring a variety of live and artificial baits to use throughout your day fishing. Bringing a variety of bait will increase your odds of catching a fish.
- Downsize your bait size when the fish are stripping your bait!
It may be common for beginner fishers to think that attaching a large piece of bait will help them catch fish faster, but it is the exact opposite that is true! When you attract a large piece of bait to your hook, it is easier for the fish to take the bait without catching on to the hook. So, when you go out fishing if you find that the fish are taking your bait but not catching the hook, try downsizing the bait you attach then start watching those fish come rolling in.
- Buy a fishing pole with an open-faced reel. Many beginners end up choosing a pole with a closed face reel because they are a little cheaper and can be easier to use, but the problem with the closed face reel is that water gets inside and doesn’t dry out quickly, causing it to not last as long. Open-faced reels on the other hand dry off quickly when they get wet and last much longer. Also, open-face reels can cast much further than closed-face reels.
- Use safety pins to organize hooks and swivels. Sliding your miscellaneous hooks and swivels onto safety pins is a great way to keep them organized. This way you will be able to find what you are looking for faster and always know what you have in your tackle box and what you don’t.
- Don’t string your fish through the gills! Many people make the mistake of stringing their fish through the gills. This is a problem because it causes the fish to not live as long meaning less-fresh fish! Instead, string your fish through the bottom of the mouth and never through the gills.
